Power In The Valley Institute

The PIV Institute is designed to provide immediate impact in the community. Our Institute offers three main areas of study:

  • ESL Training

  • Life Skills

  • Job Training

We believe addressing these areas can be the first step in guiding community members in the right steps. We are planning to add several more courses within the next twelve months.

English As A Second Language (ESL)

We offers courses in English as a Second Language (ESL) to non-native speakers. Courses are free, but students must be at least 18 years old to enroll. Our intensive ESL classes encourage students to make rapid progress in English, allowing them to participate more fully in American life in the shortest possible time.

Beginning, intermediate, and advanced ESL classes are offered. These classes give non-native speakers of English the opportunity to develop their English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in real-life situations. .

Life Skills Training

Our Life Skills Training program teaches general personal and social skills in combination with drug resistance skills

Four major content areas are covered by our Life Skills Training program:

  • Drug resistance skills and information

  • Increase awareness of social influences toward drug use

  • Skills for increasing self-control and self-esteem, such as self-appraisal, goal-setting, self-monitoring and General problem-solving and decision making skills

  • Effective communication skills

Job Training Program

The PIV Job Training Program is designed to encourage individual economic self-sufficiency. This program will teach useful skills to unemployed low-income persons, or those persons who have poor employment prospects. We plan to increase the number of persons who may enjoy the benefits of unsubsidized employment in both the public and private sectors.

The intent of this program is to provide job training to individuals to help them become self-sufficient, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
